RNLI fundraising campaign boosted by visit

James Bond and the RNLI may have more in common than you think: both have annual running costs of over £122M – approximately £335,000 per day – with hundreds of stations manned by thousands of highly trained recruits.

Of course, the main difference is that RNLI crews are almost all volunteers…

Daniel Craig, the latest incarnation of Ian Fleming’s James Bond, 007, visited Ramsgate RNLI in the summer to support the charity’s efforts to raise funds and save lives.

Coxswain Ian Cannon admitted the visit, which was organised by the actor himself, was ‘a bit of a surprise’ but that ‘his handling of the inshore lifeboat was impressive.’

Craig commented: ‘The tireless, unassuming, and above all brave work that the RNLI volunteers undertake everyday makes me proud and honoured to be associated with them. Please help them do their job – support your local lifeboat.’
