And at least a silver for 470 men
Nick Dempsey has won a silver medal in the men’s RS-X windsurfing class.
Dempsey finished the medal race in third-position to secure second overall behind the Netherlands’ Dorian van Rijsselberge, who won the medal race to confirm his dominance of the regatta.
For Dempsey it should banish the demons of the 2008 Olympics when he entered the medal race second overall, but ended up finishing outside the medals after a bronze in 2004.
In the women’s RS-X class Britain’s Bryony Shaw finished fifth in the medal race to end up seventh overall. Spain’s Marina Alabau Neira won gold.
In the men’s 470 Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell guaranteed themselves at least a silver medal with third and second-place finishes, but their Australian rivals, Mat Belcher and Malcolm Page, seized the initiative in the battle for gold with two wins.
Patience and Bithell must now finish two places clear of the Aussies in Thursday’s medal race to win gold.
The Antipodean rivals of Britain’s Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark in the women’s 470 also enjoyed a perfect day with two wins for Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie of New Zealand.
The British team sit just four points behind the Kiwis after fifth and second-place finishes today.
The final two races of the qualifying regatta take place tomorrow in the women’s 470 before Friday’s medal race.
