Katy Stickland tests the Musto Evo Therm Primaloft jacket to see if its claims to keep your temperature regulated stand up to scrutiny
Can a lightweight jacket really keep you warm during colder months? I tested the Musto Evo Therm Primaloft to find out
Unfortunately, the Musto Evo Therm Primaloft jacket is only available for men, so I did find the medium to be a bit tight on the hips, even though the skirt is elasticated, but otherwise it fitted well with regards to length in the body and arms and on my shoulders (I am 5ft 9in tall and size 12).
The cuffs are elasticated, which did stop water trickling down my arms in the rain, but the elasticated section on the back of the hood didn’t make it tight enough to keep it up during any sort of blow, although I solved this with a bobble hat (I do have quite a small head).

The Primaloft insulation acts a bit like fur, helping to regulate body temperature
Where this jacket really scored well was in keeping me warm but not too sweaty.
There are mesh panels under the armpits, which stopped me from getting overheated, plus it is lined with Primaloft insulation, which is marketed as mimicking natural fur, trapping air to keep you warm, but allowing airflow to keep you cool.
Over December, January and February, I have worn the jacket on the water and dog walking, and it helped regulate my core temperature well, especially when sailing, as you are active and then often still for periods of time.

A button at the front means you can fully unzip but still prevent the jacket from flapping about
I really like the button featured midway down the front flap, as it means you can unzip the jacket but keep it partially secure if you want to cool down more.
This jacket is very thin, so I could easily move around in it, and if I was going out on a particularly cold day, I would layer up with base or mid layers.
A versatile jacket that could be used throughout the year for coastal sailing, plus it packs up really small.

The hood, despite an elasticated piece at the back, was slightly too big for my head, and blew down in any sort of a blow. I solved the problem by wearing a hat
The Musto Evo Therm Primaloft jacket only comes in black and is available in sizes small to XXL.
