A good use for that leftover epoxy resin - Hanne and Matthijs Siljee-van Beek beef up their oars

Ever found yourself standing around with half a cup of resin left over from another job? Well here is an idea from rocky Wellington in New Zealand to save the tips of your dinghy oars.
We just wound some adhesive tape around the tips of the upright oars to act as formwork – then poured in the left over resin.

Once set we removed the tape and tidied up the reinforced tips with a belt sander.
We cruise a steel Ganley ketch around the Marlborough Sounds and Cook Strait, and have abused the oars with rough landings and fending off rocks for over three years, without any problems.
