UK Coastguard can confirm that debris has been found following an extensive search for a missing microlight aircraft.

A yacht, which had responded to the Mayday relay broadcast and joined the search efforts, located the debris north of Glenarm, Northern Ireland.

It has been confirmed as belonging to the microlight aircraft that was reported missing with two people on board on Friday.

UK Coastguard co-ordinated the search, which involved Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ballycastle, Coleraine, Port Muck and Larne carried out a shore search, RNLI lifeboats from Larne, Red Bay and Portrush a fixed wing aircraft and the Irish Coastguard search and rescue helicopter.

A Coastguard spokesman said: ‘Police are providing support to the families.’
