Two killed and one seriously injured as massive wave strikes oil tanker

Two crewmen have been killed and one seriously injured when a massive wave struck an oil tanker off the Scottish coast on Saturday. The Indian crew of the FR8 Venture were working on deck in winds up to Storm Force 10 when they took a wave over the bow.

Longhope RNLI lifeboat and Stornoway rescue helicopter were called to the scene and a doctor was winched aboard. The injured man was taken by helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was said to be in a stable condition on Sunday.

The tanker was carrying crude oil and had been heading for Houston, Texas when the incident took place. However, a pilot was put on board and it returned to Scapa Flow, where police investigations are under way.
