Four recognised in Birthday Honours List
Two lifeboat crew and two RNLI fundraisers have been recognised for their services to maritime safety in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Andrew Findlay, helmsman of the Macduff lifeboat in Scotland, has been given an MBE, as has Kevin Christian, who has served the RNLI for 33 years on the Isle of Man, first as second coxswain and later as lifeboat operations manager.
Eleanore Huston, from Portrush, Antrim, and Edna Weatherby, from Staffordshire, have been honoured with an MBE and a British Empire Medal (BEM) respectively.
The British Empire Medal has been revived by David Cameron to mark the Diamond Jubilee, after being previously phased out in 1992. It is awarded to people for work in their local community.
RNLI chief executive Paul Boissier said: ‘We are delighted to see so many people who are connected to the RNLI in this year’s Birthday Honours List.
‘As a charity we are dependent on the selfless commitment of our volunteer crew and the hard work of our dedicated fundraisers. It is wonderful to see such commitment and dedication rewarded by our patron Her Majesty The Queen.’
