Solent SC is among the hundreds of clubs opening its doors

This Saturday, 18 May, Lee on Solent Sailing Club will
be inviting people of all ages and abilities to try sailing and enjoy some shoreside activites.

It is one of around 100 sailing clubs and centres across the country taking
part in the RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.

The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open
days, have a go sessions and fun events for all the family.

Open from
9am to 5pm at the club’s premises can be found at 46 Marine Parade East in Lee-on-Solent and
their sailing base on the seafront to the east of the main club house.

Activities will include water games from the OnBoard Gybe Club, followed by Try a Sail sessions,
encouraging members of the public to come along have a go at sailing.

Register for your Try a Sail session via the club’s website www.lossc.co.uk
under the learn to sail section.

There
will also be tours of the club and club racing, where as many members as
possible will be encouraged to get out on the water.

The club’s galley will be
open selling homemade cakes, teas and coffees all day.

Jonty
Challis, of the Lee on Solent Sailing Club, said: ‘We are delighted to be taking part in
the RYA Push the Boat Out Day.

‘We are
inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing and
see what the club has to offer and get involved. Who knows, if you visit you
might just get hooked!’

RYA
Sport Development Manager Jon White said: ‘So many people were inspired by the
London 2012 Games and Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for
clubs to encourage people to get down to their local sailing venue, have a go
and find out how just easy it is to get involved in the sport.’

If the answer is yes then you could be in with a chance of winning a visit to your club, from one the UK’s leading sailors.

The RYA has launched an exclusive Push the Boat Out social media competition, with the star prize being a visit from a member of the British Sailing Team who will spend the day at your club getting involved in club activities and talking to members.

All you have to do to win this amazing prize is post or tweet a photo from your club onto the RYA Facebook page or RYA Twitter feed saying that your club is taking part in Push the Boat Out.

The winner will be chosen at random and announced on the Push the Boat Out website on 24 May.
