Vendee Globe star to arrive home on Saturday 9th Feb

British sailor Alex Thomson, fresh from his third-place finish in the Vendée Globe,
circumnavigating the world in 80 days and smashing the British
single-handed monohull record, will arrive back home to Haslar marina on Saturday 9th February with a Royal Navy escort and a Parade of Sail through Portsmouth Harbour. The programme is as follows:

  • 11:00 – Parade of sail – Spitbank Fort
  • 12:00 – Parade of sail in Portsmouth Harbour
  • 13:00 – Public reception next to the Lightship, Haslar Marina (best view from the Haslar Pier)

Alex
Thomson Racing has offices at Dean & Reddyhoff’s Haslar Marina, where they have been based for 14 years. Ben Lippiett, Haslar Marina Manager, will be part of the welcoming
flotilla that followed Alex into his berth at Haslar,

‘There
has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears over the years, which makes this
result in the Vendée all the more fantastic. It is richly deserved and is
testament to the ambition of Alex and the sacrifice and enthusiasm of this
team.

‘He
is our very own Haslar pirate, but with a vastly superior wardrobe to that of
Cap’n Jack Sparrow.’

The map, supplied by the marina, shows where you will be able to watch the parade of sail from.
