Events will be taking place all around the UK

The British Marine Federation (BMF) has launched a weekend of events to encourage boating and watersport activities across the country.

On The Water Weekend will be taking place from 27 to 28 April 2013 and aims to deliver a programme of events nationwide.

Following on from an event-filled 2012, with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the On The Water Weekend seeks to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds wanting to get out on the water.

The weekend will be filled with opportunities to try canoeing or sailing, find out about training and boating holidays or what’s available on your doorstep, there will be so much to see and do throughout the weekend.

Sarah Dhanda, BMF Senior Federation Director said: ‘The BMF will be working closely with its members and the wider leisure marine industry to deliver an event full of opportunities.

‘Over 3million* UK adults participate in on-water activities and this event has been launched to encourage more to join them and get on the water.

‘This will be the perfect chance for people to get into boating and watersports and back out on the water, whatever their aspirations.’

The UK has more than 7,700 miles of coastline and a network of rivers and canals, lochs, lakes and reservoirs.

The On The Water Weekend will be encouraging anyone looking to try something new, explore a new area or re-establish an old hobby.
