Solent extravaganza of boats, gear, displays, food, fun… and PBO

Hamble Point Boat Show, taking place in three weeks time from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 April, promises to be a great boost to the start of the season – so put it in your diary now.

Billed in previous years as a used boat show, the organisers have upscaled this year and their new, free-to-enter show offers a total of more than 250 vessels on display, encompassing everything from dayboats to larger sailing yachts, new and used. Bénéteau and Dehler are among the big names taking part.

You can view the boats or even take sea trials, talk to marine experts about anything from insurance to maintenance, source your latest kit from the onsite chandlery and browse for bits in the Sea Scouts-run boat jumble.

The RNLI will be on hand offering their free Sea Safety checks, and you can get free gas checks too, or perhaps take part in practical workshops with the RYA’s Active Marina programme.

Entertainments include the first ever on-water gig-pulled tug-o-war, kayak polo, Micro Magic yacht races, RIB rides and bungee trampolining, with displays of model yachts, restorations and figurehead carving, and demonstrations by local rowing and sailing clubs. Motorcycles, hot rods and classic cars will offer an alternative if you’re temporarily boated-out, while, of course, the Saturday night sees the inevitable music-filled party.

If the weather is less than kind, no matter, as a giant marquee will house many of the exhibitors. PBO will be there on the IPC stand, so why not stop by for a chat with one of the team?

Hamble Point Boat Show is at Hamble Point Marina near Southampton, 20-22 April between 10am-5pm each day.
