How to make a grippy surface

A good way to create a non-slip area on a painted surface is to mask off the area, paint it and sprinkle fine sand on to the wet paint. When this dries, you can paint a thin coat over the top of the sand and you’ll have a very effective non slip surface. Others use sugar or salt, which they rinse away once the paint is hard, leaving behind a textured surface.
