Explosive dance, family cabaret and fiery spectacles

Lakes Alive Festival will be getting underway at Whitehaven Marina, Cumbria this weekend.

The free annual event, for visitors and berth holders alike, runs from Friday 9 August to Friday 16 August and promises to entertain all the family with explosive dance, family cabaret, sound installations and fiery spectacles.

Whitehaven Marina will host shows this Friday and Saturday, as well as next Friday, 16 August.

Other events will be held at The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhol, Market Square in Millom and The Square in Cleator Moor.

From 9 to 16 August, all visiting boats to Whitehaven Marina are being offered two for one berthing nights, and for those bringing their boat by road there will be free use of the slipway and discounted lift and launch services.

In addition to the shoreside offerings and festival atmosphere in the marina and nearby town centre, visiting sailors can take the chance to explore some of the local cruising grounds of Whitehaven.
 
The Lakes Alive performances at Whitehaven include:

A spectacular Fire of the Sea show, the El Foc Del Mar by Xarxa on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 August at 9.30pm.
 
Four dancers in large cage, including aerial work, called Captive By Motion House, on Friday 16 August at 12.30pm.

A family show that falls somewhere between circus, cabaret and fairground amusement called Travelling Palace by La Famille Goldini on Friday 16 August at 12.30pm.
 
Lakes Alive is a free event open to all providing the ideal excuse to explore new boating horizons.
