Which side alongside?

When turning into a pontoon berth (forward or astern), it's preferable to have the berth on the outside of your turn rather than the inside. If it's on the inside the boat is sliding away rather than towards the pontoon finger

Mr and Mrs Carol and John Wade,

I wonder if through your magazine I can hale the good rescue by two good people and the bad engine service of another!
A big thank you to John and Steve of Haslar Marina (where we have our recently refurbished Anderson 22 berthed) who rescued us from just outside pyramid area of Portsmouth harbour entrance...we were on our first short sail since with our experienced sailing friends . Luckily I became sea sick and asked my husband to start the engine! John and Steve were called to tow us back because our engine wasn't moving us forward. It turned out our propellor had fallen off! We are being haled as vandals to our own engine by the service of a well known marine engine shop. They are blaming us...and it couldn't be further from the truth...having cosseted our boat engine in our garage for months. Not a mark on her. So all you sailors out there with outboard engines...like our six stroke suzuki...let us know your thoughts please...and do double check bolts and stuff around the propellor .... (ps...Ron Hale's name shouldn't be mentioned...but in an oblique way could! He charged us £90 for a new one...and we have heard since that it has happened to other people....a racket or what?)
But a big thanks to Haslar Marina and the helpful staff they have there.
