Sail The Solent Challenge

Fri, 15 Oct 2010 - Sun, 17 Oct 2010

Second Sail the Solent challenge which takes place in October, raises funds for medical research to help sick and disabled babies and children.

In one long weekend teams of would-be sailors, from complete landlubbers to more experienced crewmates, will be trained by professionals to race 40-foot yachts against the elements around the Isle of Wight.

Round the world solo skipper, Alex Thomson has kindly lent his support to the event, which was won last year by all-female team ‘Here Come the Girls’.

The event is open to both individuals and teams and the adventure begins on Friday 15 October when participants meet in Gosport to make themselves at home on board their yacht.

A professional skipper will teach all aspects of sailing from understanding the wind, setting the sails and taking the helm.

Then Sunday is race day, with teams taking charge of their yachts (under the watchful eye of their skipper). They will then make all of the tactical and sailing decisions in order to be the fastest team to sail the 60 miles around the Isle of Wight.
