Sailing for Heroes regatta + weekend events

The Yarmouth (Isle of Wight) Harbour Commissioners supported by Royal Solent Yacht Club is hosting the Sailing for Heroes regatta & weekend events.

Sailing for Heroes is a new sailing event with military themed land based activities aimed at raising funds for Help for Heroes.

Help for Heroes is an organisation formed to help Servicemen and women who have been wounded in Britain's current conflicts. The Help for Heroes charity provides support through fundraising appeals and passes capped grants on to those charities and groups best able to provide the facilities and services that aid the rehabilitation process.

Help for Heroes also supports the tri-service initiative Toe in the Water which aims to inspire those who have sustained traumatic injuries, including the loss of limbs, to move beyond their disability and become re-inspired by life.

Competitive sailing is a physically and mentally challenging, adventurous sport and provides a unique opportunity for injured men and women to sail and race on equal terms with their able-bodied contemporaries. Toe in the Water will also benefit from the funds raised through Sailing for Heroes Regatta.

Events Schedule
The Sailing for Heroes Regatta will take place on the water throughout the weekend with boats from ‘Toe in the Water’ - the tri-service initiative which aims to inspire those who have sustained traumatic injuries, including the loss of limbs, to move beyond their disability and become re-inspired by life - sailing together with other service boats from the Royal Logistic Corps, The Royal Engineers and the Grenadier Guards and local Yacht Clubs.

FRIDAY 2ND JULY

Catering facilities, bar marquee and live music on stage on The Green 18.00 -23.00 hours

18.00 - MEDINA MARCHING BAND (Veterans)
18.30 - THE FULSOM PRISON BLUES BAND
20.00 - THE UNTOUCHABLES (Motown sounds etc)
21.30 - CROSSFIRE
23.00 - CLOSE

SATURDAY 3rd JULY

Catering facilities bar marquee and live music on stage on The Green 11.00 – 15.30 hours

11.00 - VECTIS RADIO
12.00 - REGGIE BALMORAL

15:30 - VECTIS RADIO TILL 16.00 CLOSE

10am-4pm. Military displays on The Green and in the Harbour including:-

• Royal Logistic Corps with Landing Craft and other ‘toys’. Will also take up an area on the Green for kids mini-military activities
• Grenadier Guards land display & activities
• Royal Naval Association – static display
• IOW Military Vehicle Association
• H4H & TITW charity stand selling raffle tickets

SUNDAY 4th JULY

Catering facilities bar marquee and live music on stage on The Green 11.00 – 16.00 hours

Chris Lisher, Chief Executive/Harbour Master commented, "Sailing for Heroes is our tribute to Britain's serving armed forces. The regatta and associated military themed land based activities will enable us to provide a new event for Yarmouth, both on and off the water, whilst raising the much needed funds for both Help for Heroes and Toe in the Water."
