Go Sailing Association - Round Britain Crews
Sun, 23 May 2010 - Sun, 26 Sep 2010
Go Sailing Association (GSA) celebrates 30 years of sailing this year. Originally a company sports and social club, GSA struck out on its own in the 1990’s and now has over 500 members – plus four yachts.
Membership is open to everyone, with novices particularly welcomed. Each year the GSA runs “Skills Development Cruises” which are aimed at encouraging members to try out things they have only learnt about in theory.
The fleet is made up of Ocean Flame III, a Warrior 40 and Solent Flame II, a Moody 28 based in the Solent. Celtic Flame II is a Dufour 34 berthed near Plymouth and Hebridean Flame II is a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey based in Largs, Scotland.
Special events in the past have included cruises to Spain and Portugal and a regular is the Round The Island Race.
Yachts often move to other locations so members can experience alternative cruising areas – Channel Islands and Oban being popular with many.
This year the GSA is running a special event called the “Round Britain Crews”.
Solent Flame II is circumnavigating England, Wales and Scotland (crossing west to east via the Caledonian Canal). This event is organised as a relay with Solent Flame II the baton being passed between 17 crews.
New members are always welcome.
