Maintenance required on the shortcut from west to east Scotland

The Caledonian Canal that links Inverness to Fort William via Loch Ness is to be closed from 24 December to 22 March inclusive to allow major engineering works on three swing bridges to take place.

Muirtown Swing Bridge in Inverness, Fort Augustus Swing Bridge at the south-western end of Loch Ness and the Banavie Road Swing Bridge in Fort William on the west coast will all be closed to through traffic.

During this period, navigation of some sections of the canal will be possible within winter operating hours.
