A man died yesterday after diving into the sea to rescue his 10-year-old son. The father-of-two from north London was on a family holiday in Devon when the tragedy happened around 5pm. He managed to drag his son to safety at Hartland Point but slipped back into the sea. Two members of the public pulled him unconscious from the water, and one of them – an off-duty paramedic – tried to resuscitate him. Sadly the man was pronounced dead in hospital.
