Two miles of canal drained

A two-mile stretch of West Midlands canal has reopened today after it was drained by vandals yesterday.

The Wolverhampton Lock Flight was closed to boats, after water levels on the Birmingham Old Main Line were severely reduced.

Canal & River Trust spokeswoman Sarah Rudy said: ‘This has been done deliberately. It looks as if they have opened up the pedals on the lock gate.’

The lock flight was refilled by pumping water from other locks further down the canal.
