'Sugar Store' warehouse to host marine businesses

Planning permission has been granted for Cowes Harbour Commission to develop the ‘Sugar Store’ warehouse at its Shepards Wharf site.

As well as improving facilities for yachtsmen visiting the Isle of Wight sailing hub, the new building will be available to house businesses in the marine sector.

Harbour master and chief executive of the commission, Stuart McIntosh, said: ‘We are committed to investing in Cowes.

‘Developing the Sugar Store will improve facilities at Shepards Wharf Marina, whilst creating new business opportunities. This should benefit both the marina users and the local economy.

‘The Sugar Store building will be the latest development in the Medina Road area of Cowes which has undergone a resurgence in recent years. It is fast becoming an important commercial hub in this part of Cowes and the Solent region.’

The new building will combine existing marina facilities with offices, a bar and restaurant, workshops and shops.
