Green Awards presented on PBO stand at Southampton Boat Show

The winners of the second annual PBO Green Awards 2010 have been announced at the Southampton Boat Show.

The PBO Green Awards recognise marine businesses that have taken steps
to reduce the environmental impact of leisure boating and make the
industry more sustainable.

 Here’s PBO’s Editor, Sarah Norbury, introducing some of this year’s winners.






 

The winners in our four categories are:

Product: Henri Lloyd – Blue Eco
PBO Green Awards 2010 winner Henri Lloyd Blue Eco
Launched in November 2009, these 100% recyclable jackets and trousers are made from Henri Lloyd’s TP Eco fabric. Old jackets are shipped back to the Teijin factory in Japan and recycled into brand new fabric in a never-ending sustainable loop.

Marine Service and Support: Waveney River Centre
PBO Green Awards 2010 winner Waveney River CentreWaveney River Centre, a holiday park and marina on the Norfolk Broads, promotes sustainability through energy efficiency, recycling, water conservation and customer education. The centre has numerous environmental policy initiatives and, as a business, saves money through energy efficiency and cutting waste.

Boat or Boatbuilder: Greenline 33
PBO Green Awards 2010 winner Greenline 33Diesel-electric hybrid drives are now often available on new yachts and powerboats but Slovenian design house Seaway go a step further with the reasonably priced Greenline 33, adding a 1.3kW solar panel ‘power plant’ for the option of silent solar sailing.

Campaign or Initiative: Pangaea Explorations
PBO Green Awards 2010 winner Pangaea explorationsPangaea was set up to enable worldwide marine conservation aboard its ex-Global Challenge yacht from Lymington, Sea Dragon, which is currently surveying the world’s oceans to measure the volume of plastic debris that’s collecting thousands of miles away from the nearest humans. Inspiring, important work.

The winners in our four categories are detailed in the September 2010 issue of PBO on sale 20 August and will be presented with their trophies at the Southampton Boat Show.

The winners will be presented with trophies on Tuesday 14 September at 6pm on the PBO stand (E001) at the Boat Show.
