It's often down to poor helming

In many cases, having problems gybing the spinnaker, and having it wrap around the forestay is down to the helmsman. He or she needs to swing the boat through the wind positively, but not too fast – and, most importantly, they should never ‘hover’ dead downwind. The foredeck crew with thank you!
