An open day to show off the WPNSA attractions

All are welcome to attend an open day at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) on Saturday 30 March.

The 2013 event, running from 10am until 4pm, is an opportunity for members of the public to experience first-hand the sports and facilities the academy and on-site partners have to offer.

After a successful Olympic year, the academy is showcasing just how much is available for local people to enjoy, from participation to volunteering.

Entry is free and then for a discounted rate visitors can try out of activities such as dinghy sailing at SailLaser, windsurfing and stand-up paddlebarding at the Official Test Centre (OTC) and rock climbing, mountain biking, coasteering and kayaking with Weymouth College’s outdoor adventure centre.

As well as the taster sessions, there will be information available on other aspects of the academy’s facilities, membership options, function and seminar abilities.

Each taster activity will last around one-and-a-half hours and costs £15 per person.

Academy chief executive John Tweed said: ‘The WPNSA Open Day is a chance for visitors to get involved and have a go at the sports WPNSA has to offer.

‘The Games were not a one off, but a springboard to ensure there is a continuing and lasting legacy in Dorset and the United Kingdom.

‘We hope to inspire young and old in the ‘afterglow’ of very successful Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, in all aspects of marine sports not just sailing.

‘Involvement can range from partaking regularly to volunteering at events.’
