Paul Chandler, one half of the British couple kidnapped last friday by Somali pirates off the coast of the Seychelles has made contact with ITN news in the UK.

He confirms details of the couple’s capture saying he was asleep below decks at 0230 when the attack happened, and that when their yacht, a Rival 38, ran out of fuel, they were transferred to another boat and the yacht was set adrift.

No official request for ransom has been asked for, although the couple have had all their money taken and the boat was stripped of valuables.

Gordon Brown has condemned the kidnap, saying: ‘Piracy and the taking of hostages is unacceptable in any circumstances.”
