All aboard the RYA 'Push the Boat Out weekender'...

Paralympic gold medallist Helena Lucas has officially launched the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Push the Boat Out 2013.

Surrounded by visitors, youngsters and exhibitors at the RYA Dinghy Show yesterday, Helena urged clubs, centres and marinas across the country to get involved over the weekend of 18-19 May by holding open days.

The weekend event aims to invite those who live locally to take to the water and ‘have a go’ at sailing and windsurfing.

Whether you’re a regular sailor, new to the sport or simply want a day out with the family, Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for everyone to get out on the water and celebrate a national weekend of sailing.

Skandia Team GBR sailor Helena said: ‘It’s great to be here to promote RYA Push the Boat.

‘Sailing clubs are the perfect place to begin and it’s a fantastic opportunity to get the nation out sailing and having lots of fun.’

RYA Sport Development Manager Jon White said: ‘Following the huge success of the 2012 Push the Boat Out Day ahead of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are delighted to be doing it again- and this time for a whole weekend.

‘We are encouraging as many clubs as possible to sign up and take part.

‘So many people have been inspired by the London 2012 Games and RYA Push the Boat Out’ will encourage those people to get down to their local sailing venue and find out how just easy it is to have a go and to become involved in the sport.’
