Cobb's Quay Marina announces family open weekend

Free events and activities will be on offer at MDL’s Cobb’s Quay Marina on the weekend of 13 to 14 April.

The fun-packed open day is being run in conjunction with the RYA as part of the Active Marina Programme initiative.

The 1,090-berth marina, located within Poole Harbour, Dorset, will be welcoming visitors from 10am to 5pm across the weekend to show off its facilities to boating enthusiasts and local residents.

The RNLI will be showcasing a selection of its lifeboats, with the team carrying out boat safety checks, lifejacket checks and giving tours of the facility.

Chalis will be giving fire extinguisher demonstrations, and Sunseeker will have its apprentices stand on site, as well as a number of boats on display. Other models will also be on show from Ancasta, EP Barrus, Gibbs Marine, Stingray Sports Boats, Boatylicious and Fine Design.

For visitors who like to get active, PTUK Powerboat Training will be carrying out powerboat training sessions across the two days, and will be on hand to discuss any training requirements boaters or potential boaters may have.

The marina has also arranged a climbing wall and will offer have-a-go sessions with remote controlled boats and dry stack forklift trucks.

For the children, there will be a bouncy castle and a colouring competition, plus fairground attractions, and for the ladies there will be nail painting. A treasure hunt will also be arranged, giving away a free RYA Powerboat Level 1 course as first prize.

The Cobb’s Quay Berth Holders’ Association will be on hand to discuss and answer any queries regarding being a berth holder at the marina, and the team will be running a boat jumble in front of the marina office.

Peter Hogsden, marina manager, said: ‘The open weekend at Cobb’s Quay Marina is all about letting people see for themselves what our marina has to offer.

‘We have a lot of exciting plans for the weekend and urge anyone interested to come along and experience the great atmosphere for themselves.’

Free berthing will be offered across the weekend for visitors who wish to attend the open weekend by boat.
