Maritime News reports that the German yacht Faraway was hijacked in the Strait of Lombok off Bali Island, Indonesia.

The 20m yacht with two people on board was on a round-the-world trip, en route to Bali, when it was attacked by armed pirates in the Java Sea.

YBW.com reports that Indonesian police and German officials in Indonesia received word of the hijacking on 28 October and are conducting a search for the missing sailors and their yacht.

A spokesman from the Indonesia Police Department said: ‘Until now the German yacht Faraway has not been found. We have ordered carry out search tasks to the maximum and to investigate the accident.

‘We understood about the accident from a text message from a passenger on board. The owner of the yacht Diana Christa Lorens made a short call to her family, but after that communicate only by text messages.’
