Chief Executive Rod Carr, OBE has announced his retirement

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) is seeking a new CEO to helm the governing body of one of the UK’s most successful sports, following the retirement of Chief Executive Rod Carr, OBE in February 2010.

Closing date for all applications is Friday 31 July 2009.

The RYA is the governing body for the sports of sailing, windsurfing, motor boating, inland, personal water craft and powerboat racing.

Mr Carr announced his retirement at the end of March and surprised many by deciding to leave before the next Olympics in 2012.

He began his career at the RYA as dinghy coach for the British Olympic team participating at Los Angeles, 25 years ago.

He has been CEO for 10 years during which time Britain has finished as the top sailing nation at the last three Olympic games.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for the Association’s 100,000 plus members, 150 employees and an annual turnover of £18 million.
