A tsunami triggered by an earthquake off Java is thought to have killed 37 people. The 2m wave swept through the resort town of Pangandaran this morning, destroying hotels and throwing boats onto the beach. The death toll is likely to increase.

Rescuers have been sent to the affected area and residents are being urged to move away from the coast. Tsunami warnings have also been issued for the Andaman and Nicobar islands and Australia.
