Lifeboat launched to Isle of Man yacht

Three people have been rescued from a 30ft yacht off the Isle of Man after its engines failed.

The two men and a woman were rounding the north of the island on their way back from the UK mainland, when they encountered problems and were making little ground against the wind and tide.

The Ramsey lifeboat was launched just before 1pm to attend to the yacht, which was two miles east of the Point of Ayre, the isle’s northernmost point.

Ali Clague, station mechanic at Ramsey, said: ‘They were experienced sailors and luckily they called us before the situation had chance to escalate.’

The yacht arrived safely in Ramsey Harbour at around 2.30pm under a tow from the lifeboat.
