Plenty on offer over weekend

A slew of sea safety services are on show at Swanwick Marina this Bank Holiday weekend.

From 10am to 4pm, Saturday to Monday, you will be able to sit in navigation and rules-of-the-road workshops, have your lifejackets checked by the RNLI, get your liferaft serviced, get a gas survey and more.

Two sailing schools local to the Hamble marina (pictured), Bespoke Yacht Services and Marine Matters, will conduct the classroom-based, yet practical workshops, while elsewhere at the event further safety subjects, such as sea survival, personal buoyancy, boat checks, judging weather, VHF and emergency procedures, will be covered.

30 companies will also have their products on show.

Ocean Safety and Landau UK will be demonstrating old and new liferafts to show the value of regularly checking them and if you leave a liferaft with them Ocean Safety will give it a full service. Gas Check Marine will also be giving show visitors a free visual gas check survey.

Hampshire Police’s Project Kraken team will give advice on how to keep boats and the coastline safe and the MCA will talk about their equipment and how people can assist them in rescue situations.
