Small boat bonanza at Alexandra Palace

A host of activities, gear and – of course – dinghies, will be on offer at London’s Alexandra Palace at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show this weekend, 3-4 March.

An Olympics preview will be on the main stage, along with tips on technology and tactics, driving and towing, talks by round-Britain charity sailor Olly Rofix and about designer Jack Holt, various presentations including RYA Club of the Year and the culmination of the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship.

There is a boat repairs workshop, Olympic and Paralympic heritage exhibition, a barrage of information on subjects ranging from the Sail for Gold programme and clubs, and a chill-out zone in which to relax and play with technology.

Kids are challenged to build and race a boat out of paper and straws, virtually drive a RIB or handle a simulated dinghy, hunt for trasure or to design a good-luck card for the British Sailing Team… and for the wow factor, The Green Blue stand is full of aquatic aliens.

Members get a 20% discount on all RYA publications on sale at the show, including new titles such as RYA Dinghy Techniques.

In various guises the show has been running for the last 60 years and is now bigger than ever.
