More than 55 jobs will be created by Portishead Quays marina development

Hundreds of recycled shipping containers have been
stacked and bolted together to create a new bar and restaurant at Portishead
Quays marina.

The design aims to
celebrate the quays’ industrial marine heritage.

More than 100 recycled containers have been used, the majority of which used to contain imports from China before being modified
at Felixstowe Dock. A couple of the containers were used to bring in
imports from Japan.

The new development
in north Somerset, which opened last Tuesday, November 27, is set to create more
than 55 jobs.

Keith Berry, marina
manager, said the new bar and restaurant building, estimated to be worth more than £100,000, also housed the marina’s new
toilet and shower room facilities.

He said: “Definitely
the marina’s been crying out for a development like this.

“It’s the ultimate in
marina facilities.

“People can go for a
wash, order their tea and watch the lifting of the boats by our hoist dock,
which can lift up to 35 tonnes.”
