British teenager Mike Perham, 14, has become the youngest person to sail solo across the Atlantic. Mike completed the voyage this afternoon, on his Tide 28. Mike, of Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, left the UK on 18 November, shadowed by his father, Peter, in a second boat. They stopped briefly in the Canary Islands and Cape Verde to make repairs before continuing to Antigua.

After docking outside St John’s on the southeastern side of the island, Mike waved triumphantly to a small crowd of Antiguan officials and supporters. He now takes the record from Seb Clover, who was 15 when he sailed from the Canary Islands to Antigua in 2003.
