as new owners FLIR Systems increases sales

Dozens of workers at UK marine electronics firm Raymarine are facing the prospect of losing their jobs.

According to an article in today’s Portsmouth News, workers at the group’s North Harbour site in Portsmouth were told last Friday that some 32 jobs are at risk – mostly in finance and procurement.

“Raymarine does not underestimate the effect of having to put people’s roles at risk,” Corinne Johns, head of human resources, told the paper. “However, over the past couple of years the boating market has shrunk considerably and, although we see some signs of recovery, we need to align our expense overhead with our current revenue base.”

The news comes just days after thermal imaging specialist FLIR Systems, which acquired Raymarine in May, announced a 19 per cent increase in second quarter sales to US$331.1m.
