Twin Sails unfurled - but still not open

Technical gremlins mean that Poole’s new £37m Twin Sails bridge is still not open despite a second ‘opening ceremony’ this evening.

The bridge was due to be used by road traffic after the mayor and local dignitaries led hundreds of local residents on a walk-across on 25 February.

It was then expected to be fully operational before tonight’s jamboree, which included a ‘sail-through’ of various craft including representatives from the RNLI, Poole Pilots, the Royal Marines, Poole Sailability, Jenkins Marine, Sunseeker International and yachts from Parkstone and Poole Yacht Clubs.

HRH Princess Anne is visiting on Monday, for the third bridge-related ceremony, but a date when the much talked-about Twin Sails will be fully functional rather than merely decorative has yet to be given.
