£9 million Sunseeker destroyed

Six fire engines and local all-weather and inshore RNLI lifeboats battled a blaze which engulfed a 34m (111.5ft), £9 million Sunseeker motoryacht late on Friday night.

Neighbouring yachts had to be towed to other parts of Poole Harbour to prevent the fire spreading to them.

Police closed the quay bridge to pedestrians because of the intense smoke, although cars continued over the crucial link between Poole town and Hamworthy.

While the cause of the fire at the Poole luxury boatbuilders remains unknown it is not believed to be malicious. The Sunseeker was just a week away from its delivery trip to new owners in Mexico.
