Storm now downgraded from category five spares Jamaica but slams Yucatan

Hurricane Dean was the third most powerful storm to make landfall since records began in the 1850s, according to forecasters, with sustained winds of 165mph, gusts of 200mph and atmospheric pressure inside the eye of the storm at 908 millibars.

Downgraded to Category 3 at 07:50 (11:50 BST)

Estimated insurance damage is as much as $1.5billion.

Crude oil price drops as investors assured main oil fields will be spared.
