Search continues for 14-year-old who disappeared when his boat capsized off Portland on Sunday

An extensive air and sea search is under way for a 14-year-old boy who fell overboard a stolen rowing boat in Portland, Dorset, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The boy, Kyle Moore, had taken a boat with a friend from the Castletown area of Portland, and was unable to get back ashore. The pair called Portland Coastguard at 2am, and Weymouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched. A coastguard officer kept the boys talking on the phone while they tried to trace the call, but at around 245am, events took a turn for the worse. The boat was suddenly swamped in the squally conditions and the two boys thrown into the sea. Coastguard helicopter India Juliet was scrambled, along with Weymouth RNLI all-weather lifeboat. One of the boys was found at 310am but despite a search that continued all day Sunday and into the night, Kyle has not been found.

The search continues this morning. Kyle is described as 5ft 11, with a slim build and short mousy brown hair. He was last seen wearing black tracksuit bottoms, grey Nike trainers, a dark blue hoodie and a blue Umbro coat with white stripey arms. Coastguards and Police are appealing to members of the public for any information they may have on the whereabouts of Kyle. Please call: 01305 222222.
