'No one turned up': support boat carries on alone

The Around in Ten race, a two-year dash around the world for ten-foot boats, has started from the Bahamas – without any competitors.

As reported in PBO, the race was due to start on the 10th January. However, a message on the event’s website says simply: ‘No one turned up in their 10ft boats to race around the world.’

There had been a number of entrants in a range of boats, but a variety of problems saw many drop out. In December two sailors were still planning on entering – but a number of issues meant that they were unable to make the start.

Their support boat, a 38ft steel Roberts Spray, is to carry out its circumnavigation without them. Entries are still being taken – see the Around In Ten website for more information
