National Crime Agency officers arrest third man, following suspected cocaine smuggling plot

A sixth man wanted in connection with an alleged plot to smuggle around a tonne of cocaine on a yacht has been arrested.

The 29-year-old from Leeds handed himself in at a police station in the West Yorkshire area last night and will be questioned today.
 
He is the third person to be arrested in the UKby officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA)in connection with the seizure of a yacht carrying cocaine with a UK street value of at least £100million off the coast of Ireland last Tuesday, 23 September.
 
Stephen Powell, 47, of Netherfield Road, Guiseley was charged with conspiring to import class A drugs and appeared before Leeds Magistrates on Saturday where he was remanded in custody.
 
A 43-year-old man arrested by the NCA at an address in Leeds has been bailed pending further enquiries.
 
Three other UK men detained by An Garda Síochána on board the vessel, the Makayabella, have also been charged and appeared in court in Cork over the weekend.
