Sufficient sponsorship found

The Cowes Week firework party has been un-cancelled after enough funding was secured for this year’s display.

In December Cowes Week organisers announced that rising costs had forced the abandonment of the free fireworks display, which traditionally closes the regatta.

However, sufficient sponsorship has been secured to allow the display to go ahead this year.

Jon Pridham, managing director of Cowes Yacht Haven, said: ‘I’m absolutely delighted to have be part of the team that brought the fireworks back to Cowes Week and look forward to proactively working with Cowes Fireworks Committee to ensure that this wonderful tradition continues long into the future.’

It cost almost £50,000 to stage the firework display last year and that figure is expected to be nearer £70,000 in 2012, with safety responsible for around 70 per cent of the cost.

This year Cowes Week runs from August 11-18.
