Sail

Both noun and verb: on a sailing boat you set a sail. Also used: raise your anchor and
‘set sail’. Oil tankers ‘sail’ at their departure times, and sometimes a steamship is said to
‘set sail’ in the meaning that she sets forth. Only when a boat has both sail
and power as her means of propulsion does one take care to distinguish
between the verbs ‘to sail’ and ‘to motor’.
