You can sharpen the blade on a stanley knife by rubbing it against the edge of a matchbox, good if you don't have another blade or a sharpener on board...

The base of a ceramic mug also makes a good impromptu knife sharpener - there's a perfectly flat ring of rough hard ceramic, almost as good as a whetstone!
