A specialist marine gang have stolen a boat, engines and navigation equipment from Clydeside. The most recent theft, a £14,000 cabin cruiser, was taken from a berth in Renfrew and loaded onto a lorry. A number of other similar incidents have taken place over the last month. The manager of Offshore Workboats, Rex Lyons, is the owner of the cabin cruiser. He believes the gang is stealing to order. 'They clearly have knowledge of boats and how to get what they need for unscrupulous boat owners,' he said. 'They graduated to my boat after taking engines and satellite navigation systems.'
Shortly after the incident, a police helicopter searched the area and a coastguard vessel patrolled the Clyde. Strathclyde Police at Renfrew are appealing for any witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who has been offered marine equipment.
